An article reproduced from The Globe, August 2024:
TWO VALUABLE OPPORTUNITIES
TROC is buying a TDC we are going to break for spares, at Bob Hobbs’s place in Wiltshire, possibly first session on 21st August 2024 or soon thereafter.
We are inviting a small number of volunteers to come along and help, learning as we go, under Bob’s expert supervision. This will be a valuable way of passing on a little of Bob’s technical expertise, whilst at the same time collecting any suitable parts which are in good enough condition to be additions to the Club’s spares stock.
We already have a few names of people who would like to be included – in some cases because they have an eye on some of the spare parts which are expected to be liberated, which is great.
If YOU would like to be kept informed of the dates of sessions at Bob’s, and the progress of the dismantling, please email the editor: RogerSto@aol.com or go to the new page on our website where the work is going to be reported – a link is on the front page at www.TROCltd.co.uk .
We are also hoping to video the work as it is done, probably in a series of short clips – “Removing the boot”, “Accessing the petrol tank” and so forth, with Bob Hobbs’ comments, and possibly a voice-over commentary added later. These will later be available on the website for members to download.
Problem: we don’t have anyone that I’ve yet found who has the necessary video skills. (I have been dropping occasional requests in the Globe – think how good it would be to be able to have drone shots of the cars at a meeting, or driving nice roads; a library of video clips; all manner of things. A You-Tube channel is possible.)
If there is anyone who might be interested, and might have the time and some technical know-how, we would love to hear from you. The Club might well agree to invest in equipment if needed – a Go-Pro or two, microphones, external hard-drives for storing and backing-up recordings; I don’t know. If you have the time and inclination, or you can think of someone (probably a young techno-geek?) who might, we would be interested in exploring possibilities. In the first instance, or if you have further questions, please contact the editor: RogerSto@aol.com .
In case anyone is thinking that buying and breaking a Razoredge which could be restored, is an act of automotive vandalism which the Club ought to be opposing, not encouraging – please take a look at the number of failed restorations and other derelict cars which are currently offered in the ‘For Sale and Wanted’ section of each Globe. This project will enable other cars to be maintained and kept roadworthy, whilst derelict cars are clearly not in short supply. The car in question, TDC 1936 DLO, has been offered in the Globe for a number of years now, at a minimal asking-price, without attracting a buyer. Yes, it is sad to see it reach the end of its road use; but we have to face practical possibilities.
